The SoundGate interface, provides an Auxillary input to connect your MP3 player. With this direct connection, you get pure clean sound, with no fading or interference, which is often the case with FM modulators. You can still play an individual CD through your factory head unit, (If you have that kind of head unit) but you will not be able to use your factory multi-disc CD system. Play order selections are made from your MP3 player, not from the head unit. Volume can be controlled at the head unit or steering wheel controls.

The SoundGate interface works with Mercedes fiber optic sound systems which either have a factory CD Changer, or are pre-wired as "CD Changer ready". The SoundGate components are installed at the Changer Mounting Location. It is not installed at the head unit. If you have a factory CD changer, it is removed, and replaced with SoundGate components. If your vehicle is not wired for a CD Changer, the SoundGate system will not work. From the Changer Mounting Location, your installer will provide a cable that runs to where you want to connect your MP3 player, such as your console or glove box.

The SoundGate interface includes all fiber optic cabling and power wiring. Unless you are familiar with fiber optic splicing, Professional installation is required.
